Methodology

How we calculate emissions saved.

We compare the emissions of each Friendly Shipping delivery against a counterfactual baseline: what it would have cost in CO₂ to send the same parcel via a dedicated courier or standard parcel network on the same route.

Route-based, not average
We use real origin–destination pairs and modal split, not portfolio averages.
Marginal allocation
Because the traveler's journey already exists, we allocate only the marginal emissions of carrying the extra parcel weight.
Conservative baseline
We compare against the most efficient realistic alternative — not the worst case — to avoid overstating impact.
Independently sourced factors
Emission factors come from ADEME, EEA and DEFRA — peer-reviewed, public datasets.
Audited annually
Methodology and figures are reviewed by an external sustainability advisor each year.
